Location of Position: Columbia, Maryland

Position Summary:

The Medical Affairs Director will be responsible for creating and driving evidence generation, and preference, for Ambu products in the North American clinical community. The ideal candidate will have both strong clinical research and commercial understanding of the medical device market, as well as having a proving track record of developing and implementing programs that deliver true business impact. The Medical Affairs Director will work directly with a group of key internal stakeholders (e.g. VP of Marketing, Director of Health Economics and Market Access, National Sales Trainer, etc.). This will be done by defining near, medium and long-term objectives, covering a broad range of medical affairs activities.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Lead and development the Medical Affairs programs
  • Build and lead the Medical Affairs team to deliver on department goals
  • Define clinical direction and building clinically relevant evidence for Providers and Payers substantiated by advisory boards, market research, and clinical research
  • Drive clinical intelligence and clinical agenda advocacy
  • Monitor trends and discover and present new clinical evidence that address unmet needs (i.e. improved clinical, financial or patient satisfaction outcomes) substantiated through medical conferences, expert networks, and literature reviews
  • Drive publications of data to ensure relevant content at medical conferences and at Ambu events
  • Collaborate with the Market Management team to create ambassadors and KOL partnerships in alignment with clinical direction, including:
    • Defining KOL plan, strategy and segmentation
    • Facilitating expert participation in symposia
    • Securing KOL engagement
    • Managing customer advisory panels
    • Develop and execute clinical training programs
    • Act as the medical liaison to major GPO/IDN and Payer organizations
    • Required travel up to 40% of the time to participate in local and national conferences, as well as customer and KOL meetings

Key Success Factors:

  • Develop a clinical roadmap to support the value proposition across Ambu's portfolio
  • Drive Ambu product claims in the clinical community through the generation of clinical evidence
  • Identify external clinical opinions, perceptions and trends that influence Ambu performance, and where warranted, develop appropriate mitigating strategies
  • Build and manage KOL relationships
  • Engage key professional groups and establish strong relationships that enhance our corporate image, as well as increase understanding of Ambu products
  • Establish and drive clinical studies in cooperation that lead to publications in support of Ambu's business objectives
  • Partner with key internal stakeholders to drive stronger alignment of clinically appropriate strategies

 Qualifications /Experience:

  • Medical Degree (MD or DO)
  • Master of Science in Clinical and Translational Research or equivalent, preferred
  • 7+ years of experience working in a clinical research capacity
  • At least 2 years of experience managing a team, including clinicians
  • Proven ability to review and interpret scientific data and research
  • Demonstrated ability to work across functions to prioritize and drive strategic objectives
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • High degree of initiative and self-motivation with a strong sense of accountability
  • Ability to identify, analyze and solve problems with minimal direction and make decisions with confidence
  • Aptitude to successfully prioritize and manage multiple tasks while adhering to deadlines
  • Adaptability to realign initiatives quickly to meet shifts in the market
  • Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint proficiency, required
