Job Title: Staff Accountant

Reports To: Financial Reporting Manager

Location: Columbia, MD

Responsible for general accounting including preparing journal entries, maintaining balance sheet schedules, ledgers, accounts, and bank reconciliations. Will serve as a key player in monthly and yearly closing. Lead cash management and reconciliations. Assist with financial reporting to HQ (located in Denmark).

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

Accounting Responsibilities

• Reconcile and maintain Monthly Balance sheet accounts
• Calculate/reconciliations cash (daily), credit card fees, freight, royalties, prepaids, payroll, etc., and others as assigned
• Perform monthly reconciliation and journal entry postings from lease accounting system.
• Prepare financial and variance analysis of accounts
• Prepare and post journal entries, and reconcile/record intercompany transactions
• Maintain monthly recurring entries
• Assist with month and year-end closing
• Assist Accounting team with sales & use tax filings
• Work with global team on fixed asset creation and maintenance
• Assist with preparation and coordination of the audit process
• Primary point of contact for insurance renewals
• Assist with implementation and maintaining internal financial controls and procedures.
• Work closely with Danish HQ in financial reporting and related questions
• Work collaboratively and communicate with other members of finance to align financial reporting expectations, deadlines, etc.
• Work closely with Malaysia financial services team on GL, travel, and other accounting issues
• Review AP payment proposals prior to final bank submission by AP team
• Work with procurement and internal team on vendor setups/financial data changes
• Manage and support Accounts Payable function as needed
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications /Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting and 2-4 years accounting experience
• CPA or working towards CPA designation (desired)
• Experience in Accrual Accounting and reconciling balance sheet accounts
• Experience filing state sales/use and VAT tax reports
• Knowledge of US GAAP and IFRS
• Knowledge of financial reporting
• Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws regarding finances and taxation
• Previous experience of general accounting
• Advanced Excel skills
• Proficiency in accounting software preferably M2M or M3 (Movex)
• Experience using data analyzing software preferably Cognos
• Ability to adhere to 50/50 remote work schedule
• Knowledge of Accounts Payable Invoice processing systems
